sparkling water: new study says it leads to death - vinmod (episode 102)

We've all tried it, sparking water. It has existed for a long time, but it has become widely popular in the last few years.

Why?

I think something has changed with the formula. There must be more than carbonated water and natural flavors. What are those natural flavors?

It might be natural, but that doesn't mean that it's healthy or even safe. I'm not saying sparking water is not safe, I'm just saying I don't know what it is. I think this is the case with most people.

Again with the clickbait, but there are always studies and every single one of them usually says it ultimately leads to death. So yes, I took some poetic license.

There is a top dog when it comes to the carbonated water game.

LaCroix is king. It's an American company originating in La Crosse, Wisconsin. You're supposed to pronounce it like an American speaking Frenglish after one class of French 101 in high school. It's not French.

With that being said, it's simply delicious. Some flavors are better than others, but if it's chilled, it's good.

If LaCroix is king, then 365, Amazon's answer to sparking water, is definitely queen. I tried 365 sparkling water one day when my favorite flavor of LaCroix was sold out--lemon. I was shocked to find that 365 tasted just as good. I was not expecting this because I've tried loads of brands and have always been disappointed in some way, but 365 is a champ.

If it's just carbonated water and natural flavors, how difficult could the formula be? I think there is more to it.

When talking about the south and the north in the USA, we mean the east coast. If talking about "the city" in New York, we're talking about Manhattan.

Southerners are crazy about sweet tea, that is sweet iced tea, which tastes more like coffee depending on who makes it. If you mention the north to a southerner, you'll usually hear about how they don't have sweet tea up there, as if there is a shortage of sugar the closer you get to Canada.

Northerners, or rather New Yorkers, are crazy about sparking water. It's popular in other areas, of course, but in NYC, it's THE water.

I'm from Alabama, and I used to hate the taste of sparking water. This changed when I moved to NYC after college. When I was in college, UPenn in Philadelphia, I started drinking a lot more water. When I was younger, I basically only drank soft drinks.

I'm not sure if my taste buds matured or if my years in college drinking water helped me to flush out my sweet tooth for soft drinks to get me ready for sparking water.

Today, if I have a soft drink, it tastes like a dessert beverage. I can't believe I had so many in the past.

I have not come to a final conclusion concerning sparking water. I can't say that it's healthier to drink than soft drinks.

I will say that I am usually still thirsty after drinking sparking water. It's not a replacement for water.

What do you think about sparking water? What's your favorite brand? What's your favorite flavor?
